Therefore, chances are that you could have opted for any other default option that might not be working presently. Make sure that the default device is connected and is working properly on your computer.

To provide a better sound experience to users, Windows 10 has an inbuilt feature for audio enhancements. While the feature is meant to improve the device’s sound quality, it can cause some complications like the Windows audio not working issue. To avoid this, you can turn off the audio enhancements feature. Click on the “Advanced Device Properties” of your speakers from here. This will display a pop-up window with different advanced properties of the speakers. Go to the “Enhancements” tab from here and just disable all sound enhancements.

If your PC’s audio is not working, then there can be an issue with its audio format as well. Thankfully, Windows 10 lets us change the audio formats for our system to a compatible one. Go to its Advanced tab and select a different audio format from here. In most of cases, a 16 or bit audio format is considered compatible with different speakers. If the HD audio codec has been corrupted or is outdated, then it can cause the computer audio not working issue.

You can fix this by visiting the Device Manager option on Windows and selecting the Audio components. You can make it as default and further visit its properties to check or update it. If you don’t want to encounter unwanted audio problems in Windows 10, then make sure that the installed drivers are updated.

This will provide a list of the installed audio drivers on your computer. Simply select a driver, right-click it, and choose to update its software. You can also disable it first, wait for a while, and enable it afterward to reset it as well. Apart from speakers, some users also complain that the microphone does not work with certain apps. The cause of these audio issues in Windows 10 could be related to app permissions for the microphone.

Here, you can see a list of all the applications that require access to the microphone. FelipeAD83 Independent Advisor.

This seems to be a Zoom configuration issue. Have you double checked your audio configuration on the settings of Zoom? Thanks for your feedback. How satisfied are you with this reply? Thanks for your feedback, it helps us improve the site. In reply to FelipeAD83’s post on November 17, Yes, both the general and audio settings, and have seen nothing pertaining to my problem.

I even tried just toggling random settings off one at a time, and nothing changed. If this helps, when I go to the get help link in the windows audio settings, it plays a tone to check if there are any audio problems. This is the only other sound I can hear in a meeting. Even discord pings are silent in a meeting.

Ok then, Let’s try this: Method 1: Try to run the troubleshooter for apps to diagnose the exact issue. Method 2: Check the volume settings. Please follow the steps below and see if it helps. I downloaded from the link provided and I was able to participate in my meeting successfully with a selected virtual background.

As I was closing down the app I checked to see what version I was on and I noticed that there was an update available. I updated to 5. Yes, I am running Windows I also am a Tech professional so I know my stuff. Zoom is working perfectly for me.

Sorry that you don’t have the same experience. Help me! What did you do to get a virtual background to work on Windows 11? I was in touch with Zoom just today and they said Windows 11 does not support a virtual background and I should “work around” on another machine. Not an option and Zoom is no help! Sorry Zoom but this is ridiculous! Especially for paying customers! So I am supposed to downgrade my system for a virtual background?

Doesn’t make sense! I thought that it was just the issue of W11 being left off the list of operating systems, but others have said that they have got backgrounds to work. I can only conclude that the restriction applies to machines with shared display memory, everything else checks out.

However features like eyebrow tracking work, which I would think called for more vision processing ingenuity, so maybe Zoom will get around to the background problem one day. Are you having problems with static image backgrounds or with video backgrounds?

I found that I can use static ones but not video. I am using Windows 10, but I wonder if the same thing happens with Windows 11, or if Windows 11 is more restrictive as to the hardware you must have for video backgrounds.

I’d be happy with a static image! If I select ‘I have a green screen’ that can be enabled, but all the background clutter shows through. In all such cases, such as the ‘upgrade to W11’ test, there should be a ‘I accept that my system might cause problems’ button should force a pass to the test.

Friend has an Asus windows 10 laptop with the and gets the message saying the specs are not up to it. Which suggests Zoom perhaps do not recognise it, even though it’s better than previous gen i3’s that they allow..

I don’t understand why they would have that requirement, when there is no similar requirement for Intel processors. I am having the same issues and I have the same processor.. So it means we can’t use background for now then? Actually, it seems to be more complicated.

I downgraded to Windows 10 and I am still having the same problem. And with another computer, a desktop with an Intel processor, Core i7, 4 cores, 3. Something is wrong with Zoom. I suspect that the problem is the shared video memory. It is interesting that the face recognition features, like party hat and eyebrows, do not seem to need that video memory.

Perhaps background recognition will catch up soon. Incidentally, last year their were party features like Christmas hats and antlers. I wonder when they will appear! I think I know why the Core i7, 3. They want 6th generation or higher. Mine is 3rd generation, while the Core i5, 2. Yet I am surprised that the filter gizmos like reindeer antlers can work when backgrounds do not.

There is even something to paint on lipstick! Maybe Zoom could add another filter to insert false teeth! Zoom Community. Then, download Zoom from the official website and install a fresh new app on your computer. Hopefully this post resolved your Zoom microphone not working on Windows 10 issue.
